Nona Masters

NONA MASTERS Funeral services for Nona Masters, 95, and longtime resident of Cortez, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Mr. Shelby Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Monday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ertel Chapel. She was born Mary CeNona Lewis on July 27, 1916, the daughter of Fred Lewis and Ima Rosella (Robinson) Lewis in Hollis, Okla. Nona passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez on Friday, January 6, 2012. Nona was known for her strong religious faith, her devotion to family, and her belief in the cultivation of life-long relationships; Mrs. Masters was a member of the Highway Church of Christ in Cortez. She was also known as an avid collector and hobbyist, especially in the creation and marketing of dolls. Nona married Stanley Alexander Masters on August 14, 1946 in Littlefield, Tex. They shared 55 years of marriage before Stan's death in 2001. Nona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stan Masters; her parents, Fred and Ima Lewis; her step-father, Ed Langford; two brothers, Wayne Lewis and Sam Langford; two sisters, Laverne Langford-Setzer and Betty Langford-Frazier. Nona is survived by her son, Mitchell Masters and wife, Katherine of Taos, N.M.; a brother, Gerry Langford and wife, Maxine of Hart Camp, Tex.; one sister, Roberta "Bill" Thomman and husband, Bob of Levelland, Tex.; three grandchildren, Leslie Ross and husband, Chris of Cedar Park, Tex., Dana Dominguez of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Keri Dominguez of Lubbock, Tex.; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel and Lauren Ross of Cedar Park, Tex.; two nieces, Diana Lewis-Thompson and husband, Robert and children Tammy, Wayne, Charles, Timothy and Tony of Bullard, Tex., and Mona Wynette Lewis of Covina, Calif.; and caregivers and close friends, T.J. and Kay Knight and their daughter and son-in-law, Liz and J.R. Sellers.
