NONA LYNN MOORE Funeral services for Cortez resident Nona Lynn Moore will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 11 at the Cortez First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Reverend Bud Rousset will officiate. Nona was born in Scotia, Calif., on October 17, 1947 the daughter of Raymond E. and Meredith Elwyna (Dew) Barkdull. She passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Colorado University Hospital in Denver at the age of 57. Nona received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Humbolt State College at Arcata, Calif. She shared with children her love of education, teaching in the Middle School setting. August 1987 Nona married Earl Aaron Moore in Alpine, Calif., joining together two families. Nona and Earl moved to Cortez in the mid 1980s. A well-known painter in the Four Corners Area, Nona belonged to the Ute Mountain Art League and the Plein Aire Painters of the Four Corners. Surviving Nona are her beloved husband of 17 years, Earl Moore of Cortez; her mother, Meredith Barkdull of Cortez; three daughters, Teri Lyn Hancock and husband, Shawn of Twin Falls, Ida., Kara Lynn Renfro of Boise, Ida., and Sara Lynn Justice and husband, Chris of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Christopher Lynn Renfro and Lindsey Raymond Moore both of Cortez; two stepsons, David Coleman and wife, Mary of Fullerton, Calif., and Aaron Earl Moore of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughter, Leslie Ann Green and husband, Joel of Bartlesville, Okla.; and two granddaughters, Kasey Ann Renfro and Hailey Lynn Justice. Preceding Nona in death are her father, Raymond Barkdull and her brother, Curtis Raymond Barkdull. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Nona Moore with the Citizens State Bank of Cortez for development of an art program at the Cortez Cultural Center.
