NELLIE LAVERNE ELLENBERGER Funeral service for Cortez resident, Nellie Laverne Ellenberger will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 5 at the Oliff-Bouie Funeral Chapel in Phillipsburg, Kans. She will be laid to rest at Kirwin Cemetery in Kirwin, Kans. Nellie was born on October 19, 1911 in Cedar, Kansas to John and Elsie (Casteel) Stanhope. She passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 92. On June 15, 1935 in Kirwin, Nellie married the late John Wilbur Ellenberger. With this union three sons were born, Larry, Terry and Timothy. Nellie was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church, belonged to the Rebecca’s and was a member of the P.T.A. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, quilting and crocheting. Surviving Nellie are her sons, Larry Ellenberger of Cortez, Terry Ellenberger and wife, Peg of Towapah, Ariz., and Timothy Ellenberger and wife, Ruth of Phillipsburg, Kans. She leaves seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; as well as her three brothers, Claud Stanhope of San Diego, Calif., John Stanhope of Albuquerque, N.M., and Warren Stanhope of Salina, Kans. Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, John Wilbur Ellenberger. Memorial contributions can be made to the Methodist Church in Kirwin, Kans.
