Mildred Louise 'Milly' Shew

March 24, 1920 — December 10, 2019

Milly Shew of Lewis, Colorado, entered her Eternal Home December 10, 2019, at the age of 99. She was the last one of her generation in her family to be called Home to Glory. She was born March 24, 1920, in Sidney, Nebraska, to Louis and Lottie Holmes. There were three children in the family, a son, Burton, and two daughters, Mildred and Marion.
The family moved onto a dry-land farm, northeast of Haxtun, Colorado, when the children were young. Milly’s father farmed and served as an interim minster for local area churches. When Milly was 12 years old, her mother was taken to Glory. Throughout this difficult time, with the Lord’s help, the family reminded strong.
Milly was active in the Brethren Church in her youth. It was at this time she claimed Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know I am God” as one of her favorite Bible verses. Throughout her life this verse gave her much comfort during good and difficult times.
Through mutual friends Milly met her future husband, Wayne Shew of Holyoke, Colorado. She and Wayne were married on June 16, 1940 at the Brethren Church in Haxtun. Her father officiated at their wedding. The couple enjoyed 72 years of marriage. Two children were born to this union, Juliann (Juli Jarrett) and Kathijean (Kathi Stites).
In 1994, after approximately 54 years of life on the “Plains”, Wayne and Milly moved to Cortez, Colorado. They wanted to be near both daughters and their families who were living on the Western Slope. Wayne passed away in 2012, and Milly continued to live in their Cortez home until 2016, when she moved in with Sam and Juli. She lived with them for three and a half years.
Milly loved people and had many friends at Arriola Bible Church and Mountain View Baptist Church. Milly used to say, “I’ll see you Sunday at church.” Now she is saying, “I’ll see you in Heaven.” TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
