Maryann Simmang

February 6, 1940 — August 2, 2021

Mary Ann Simmang was born February 6, 1940 and passed away suddenly on the morning of August 2, 2021 in Dolores, Colorado.
She was born in Bristow, Oklahoma to Maxine and Leland Leonard and lived there until her parents moved her to Eunice, New Mexico. She learned her love of sports in Eunice where she was a cheerleader and followed her beloved brother, Lee, to his basketball and baseball games. Mary Ann also learned her love of golfing and fishing from him.
Mary Ann began working out of high school. She was an extremely hard worker and had the highest work ethic. Anyone that ever worked for or with her knew there was no job she couldn’t handle. She was the ultimate professional. She did everything with style, grace, and a little bit of sass.
Mary Ann and Ted Ferguson were married for 38 years before he passed away. They raised 3 daughters who she was extremely proud of and had a unique and special relationship with each one. Mary Ann and Ted moved to Giddings during the Austin Chalk Oil boom where she owned and operated Big Three Lease and Well Service. Mary Ann continued her love of sports by attending all of Martye and Kelly’s sporting events or by sponsoring softball teams for years that Martye or Kelly played on.
After Ted’s passing Mary Ann met and married Donnie Simmang. They enjoyed almost 20 years of adventures together. They spent their summers in Dolores, Colorado where they fished, hiked, and took their ATVs all over the mountains. They made many memories and friends in Colorado.
Mary Ann loved spending her mornings in Lincoln, TX drinking coffee with Donnie on their porch and watching their birds. She loved her morning phone calls with friends and her daughters, her bridge group, playing dominoes, and the trips that Jamie and she would take. Mary Ann did not like nicknames but was extremely proud to be called Goo by her grandsons Taylor and Chad and her granddaughter Jessica. She also allowed her son-in-law, Brian, to call her ‘Goo’ due to their extremely close relationship.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ted Ferguson, her parents Leland and Maxine Leonard, her brother Lee Leonard and her beloved Ellie. She is survived by her husband Donnie Simmang of Lincoln, Texas. Her daughter and son-in-Law, Jamie and Brian Lundgren, of Elgin, TX. Grandson and daughter-in-law Taylor and Jessica Lundgren of Austin, TX. Grandson Chad Lundgren and Alexis Collins of Ft. Worth, TX. Daughter Martye Ferguson of Ft. Worth, Texas. Daughter Kelly Ferguson and Phil Loveland of Lincoln, TX. Step-daughter Ronda and husband Lee Dobos of Lincoln, TX. Grandchildren Blake Carter, Hannah Pfeiffer, Lauren and Cayden Lehmann, and great-grandchildren Olive and Grayson of Dime Box, TX, Nicole Dobos of College Stations, TX, and step-son Keith and wife Kristi Simmang of Cypress, TX. Grandchildren Chelsea and Jacob Koch of Cypress, TX, Chad Simmang of Cypress TX, and her special daughters Rose Rollins, Holly Hugebeck Andreski and Kristen Starnes. Also, her beloved nieces Micah Valderamma and Staci Lee Mouden and aunt Donna Leonard Mazar.
Mary Ann loved animals. In her memory, memorial contributions can be made to Bastrop County Animal Services, 589 Cool Water Dr., Bastrop, TX 78602; or to the American Heart Association, www.donatenow.heart.org.
