Mary C. Garcia

September 26, 1940 — March 16, 2020

Mary C. Garcia of Cortez, Colorado, died peacefully at home Monday, March 16, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Del Norte, Colorado, on September 26, 1940, to Louis and Florence Chacon, she was the eldest of six daughters. Mary grew up in Colorado, Nevada, and later moved to Utah where she met the love of her life, Alfredo A. Garcia of Durango, Colorado. They were married on November 18, 1961, in Ogden, Utah. Through this union, they welcomed six children. Mary was a lifelong, devoted follower of the Catholic faith and was a dedicated member of the Montelores Catholic Daughters. She was a loving and attentive wife and mother and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.
Although many remember Mary for her sassy, spunky ways, she made sure her home was a warm, comfortable, secure place for her family. She took great care of her family, defending them when needed, and cheering them on through the many sporting and life events they were a part of. Mary taught her children what it meant to be strong from their childhood through adulthood.
Mary is survived by her husband, Alfredo; and their six children, Felicita Vigil of Cortez, CO, Bernadette (Dow) Young of Monticello, UT, Louis (Joyce) Garcia of Cortez, CO, Antoinette (Kody) Temple of Fruita, CO, Phillip (Stephanie) Garcia of Cortez, CO, and Andres Garcia of Montrose, CO; 12 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her five sisters, Rosie (Joe) Trujillo of Roy, Utah, Lucy (Steve) Quintana of St. George, Utah, Della Smith of Ogden, UT, and twin sisters, Susie Chacon of St. Charles, MO, and Susan (Doug) Anderson of Roy, Utah. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Florence Chacon; and baby brother Louis Jr.
Mary will be missed by everyone that knew her. Comfort lies in our hearts knowing that she is now fishing at the big lake in the sky with her parents and brother.
