Martha Joe Northcott

MARTHA JOE NORTHCOTT Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Martha Joe Northcott will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 29 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel with Minister Charles Story officiating. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Martha was born December 17, 1922 in Anson, Texas the daughter of Walter T. and Annie Beatrice (Crow) Taylor. She passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 at Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos at the age of 85. On January 19, 1938 Martha became the bride of Odis Martin Northcott in Lovington, N.M. The Northcott family moved to the Cortez area in 1950 and began the only cement plant in the area at the time. Martha was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Cortez Eastern Star and Emblem Club. She was known for the beautiful roses that she raised as well as her crochet work. A sports fan through and through, Martha enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. Surviving Martha are her daughter, Cookie Pickens and husband, Larry of Cortez; daughter-in-law, Dixie Northcott of Dewey, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Marty Conner and wife, Tana of Montrose, Colo., LeAnne Wolfe and husband, David of Farmington, N.M., Korina Payne of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Richard O. Northcott; eight great grandchildren; and two brothers, G.B. Taylor and wife, Patty of Orland, Calif. and W.E. Taylor and wife, Bernice of Amarillo, Texas. Preceding Martha in death were her husband, Odis Northcott in 1970; her son, Odis I. "Bud" Northcott; granddaughter, Rachelle L. Northcott; and three sisters and one brother.
