Martha Ann "Marty" Dyer

MARTHA ANN "MARTY" DYER Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Martha Ann "Marty" Dyer will be held at 2p.m. on Saturday, June 15th at Cortez First United Methodist Church. Reverend Suzanne Listemann will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Marty was born October 6, 1924 in Odessa, Mo. the daughter of Ernest Scott and Lollabelle (DeMoss) Powell. She passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013 at her Cortez residence at the age of 88. Graduating at age 16 from Cortez High School in 1941, Marty received a scholarship to and attended Ross Business College in Grand Junction. She then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder for two years. On October 7, 1959 Marty married Guy B. Dyer Jr. in Las Vegas, Nev. She was an active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Cortez First United Methodist Church, a local Republican Party Caucus Chairwoman and a volunteer for Montezuma County Hospital District Foundation. Marty was an avid Bridge player and Bridge teacher. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting. Marty kept up to date on current events and she and Guy made many wonderful memories traveling the world. Surviving Marty are her children, Bruce L. Dyer and partner, Donna Stroup of Cortez, Lana J. Cross and husband, Don of Hawaii, and Mary Sue Akin and husband, Don L. of Cortez; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marian West of Cortez and Pat Englehart of Durango; her son-in-law, Jim Mulkey of Durango; her daughter-in-law, Penny Dyer of Lakewood, Colo.; her brothers-in-law, Gerald and Gay Dyer of Grand Junction, Colo. and Glen Dyer of Golden, Colo.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Marty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy B. Dyer Jr.; her children, Carla A. Mulkey, Elizabeth A. Morris, and Lloyd Dyer; her sister, Nancy Winegar; her son-in-law, Allen Morris; and by her brother-in-law, Wayne Dyer. Memorial contributions can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Rocky Mountain Chapter, 2280 S. Albion Street, Denver, Colo. 80222.
