MARJORIE D. KELLY Funeral services for longtime area resident Marjorie D. Kelly will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cortez. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Marjorie was born April 28, 1925 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Helen (Johnson) Herbert. She passed away November 25, 2007 at the age of 82. A graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago, she worked for many years as a graphic artist at the Chicago Tribune. Enjoying riding dressage, she also kept a horse at a stable, where she met her future husband. Marj and John Kelly were married September 1, 1962 in Wheeling, Ill. Relocating to Cortez in 1974, Marj and John owned and operated the Hitching Post, a western tack shop for many years. She also spent many days with fellow artists painting the mesas, ranches and people of Southwest Colorado. Marj was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Gideon’s Auxiliary and numerous community services. Marj is survived by her husband of 47 years, John L. Kelly; her son, Jon L. Kelly and his wife, Julia; and their daughters, Christine and Katherine, all of Dolores. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gideon’s International, PO Box 62, Cortez.
