MARIA FLORINDA ULIBARRI Funeral mass for longtime area resident Maria Florinda Ulibarri will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 6 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the church on Sunday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. Maria was born in LaPuente, N.M. on July 6, 1917 the daughter of Amado and Juanita (Alires) Martinez. She passed away at Vista Grande Inn in Cortez on Friday, January 3, 2014. Maria was 96 years old. Devoted to her church, Maria was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Dolores. She also held membership in San Antonio DePadua Fraternity in Plazablanca, N.M. Before her husband's death in 1992, Maria loved dancing with Jose. Maria enjoyed keeping her hands busy crocheting and cooking and dearly loved time spent with her family. Surviving Maria are her daughter, Rosita Martinez and husband, Benito of Durango; eight grandchildren, Jose Martinez, Carlos Martinez, Javier Martinez, Augustine Martinez, Marissa Hernandez, Sally Pribble, Richard Gonzales and Tina Corral; by 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; by her brother, Tony Martinez of Dolores; and a niece, Bernie Ulibarri. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Adolfo Ulibarri; her parents, Amado Martinez and Juanita Alires Samora; and her brother, Rosenaldo Lopez.
