MARGARET MARTINEZ Funeral Mass for lifelong Dolores resident Margaret Martinez will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Tuesday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. A Rosary service will follow the viewing at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Margaret was born on May 17, 1924 in Ensenada, N.M. the daughter of Patricio and Margarita (Archuleta) Velasquez. She passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010 at her residence at the age 86. On November 25, 1939 Margaret married Tony Martinez at Summit Ridge. The couple shared 71 loving years together. In her free time, Margaret enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time playing the slots at the casino. Margaret loved her family dearly and she took great pride in looking after all her loved ones. Margaret was a talented seamstress; she enjoyed sewing for her friends and family. Surviving Margaret are her husband, Tony Martinez of Dolores; children, Nancy Sanchez and husband, Andy of Cortez, Bernice Cross and husband, Jerry of Kansas, Elizabeth Sisneros and husband, Richard of Farmington, N.M., Gloria Lopez and husband, Abel of Wales, Utah, Rosie Martinez and husband, Benito of Durango, Ruth Villarreal and husband, Francisco of Denver, Colo., Tony Martinez and wife, Mary of Marysville, Calif., Josephine Martinez of Denver, Colo., Patsy Howell and husband, Harlon of Cortez, Marcella Martinez of Missoula, Mont., Michael Martinez and wife, Henrietta of Farmington, N.M., and Carmella Gallegos and husband, Mark of Cortez. She also leaves behind 75 grandchildren; 125 great-grandchildren; 72 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Kelly Velasquez and wife, Elisa of Dolores. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; by her children, Juanita Martinez, Marie Martinez, and by an infant son; by her grandson, Rosendo Nelson; by her great-great-grandson, Roman Martinez; and by her siblings, Anna Martinez, Rebecca Velasco, Lila Martinez, and Chauela Sena.
