Lonnie Clarence Dennison

LONNIE CLARENCE DENNISON Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Lonnie Clarence Dennison, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Visitation has been set for Wednesday afternoon at the Ertel Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. Lonnie was born February 2, 1926 in Cortez the son of James Herbert and Emma Pearl (Brinker) Dennison. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the age of 81. Raised in Cortez, Lonnie left high school during World War II to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. At the end of the war, Lonnie and several of his buddies return to Cortez and finished their high school education as one of the “Kilroy Bunch”. Lonnie was a gifted athlete during his high school years playing football for Cortez High School and setting track records that remained unbroken until the 1970s. His love of football carried forward to being a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos. Lonnie was also a member of The 40s Bunch and the American Legion. His family remembers him as easy going and onery, but most importantly and loving to all his family and a very giving man. Surviving Lonnie are his children, James Dennison and Janet Lobato both of Cortez; stepdaughters, Debbie Dalaba, Terry Dalaba, and Sandy Ashmore; his grandchildren, Duane Glover Jr., Melissa Smith, Cory Wright, Kandis Dalaba, Shan Brunner, Kati Brunner, Dana Brunner, Chaney Burr and Curtis Ashmore; and his great grandchildren, Cierra, Abran, Cody, Xavier, Nelson, Bernell, Aubrey, Brooke, Blake, Isaiah, Destin, James, Brian, Jayla, Taylor, and Gabriel. Also surviving Lonnie are his brother, Darrell Dennison of Cortez; by his sister, Immogene Spruell also of Cortez; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his sister, Lois Sparks; and by his brother, LaVaughn Dennison.
