LELA MARGUERITE WEINMANN Graveside services for Lela Marguerite Weinmann will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 12 at the Cortez Cemetery. Order of the Eastern Star funeral rite will be offered by members of Chapter 83. Lela Marguerite Weinmann died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Clermont Parkin, Denver, Colo. She was 88. The cause of death was Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Weinmann was born on September 5, 1926 in Sylvia, Kan. to Harley and Lena Shull and was the fifth of seven children. She resided in La Plata County most of her life, and graduated from Durango High School in 1945. She married Claude Steele and moved to Arizona. Mr. Steele died in 1949, which led to her return to Colorado in 1953. In 1957, she married Leon Weinmann of Cortez, Colo. They resided in Durango until they moved to Denver in the early 1990's. Mrs. Weinmann retired after 27 years of service as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell. In retirement, Mrs. Weinmann was an active member of several organizations including; Order of Eastern Star, Communication Workers of America, Telephone Company Pioneers, and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels for many years. Additionally, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, reading, and was a master at jigsaw and word search puzzles. Mrs. Weinmann had many loves including spoiling her grandchildren, seeing snow on the La Plata Mountains and Indian Paintbrush wildflowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon Weinmann; as well as her sisters, Marie Bierce, Violet Woolf, Bernice "Bea" Solem, Anita "Nita" Rhodes; and brothers, Eugene Shull and Herbert "Bert" Shull. Mrs. Weinmann is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Darrel) Quick, of Littleton, Colo.; daughter, Sonja (Barry) Walcker, of Golden, Colo.; son, Ray (Diana) Weinmann, of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Kay Hill, of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Harriet Shull of Cortez; and many nieces and nephews.
