John Arnold Mathies

JOHN ARNOLD MATHIES John Arnold Mathies passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 after a short illness at the age of 61 years and 11 months. John was born on January 31, 1949 in Cortez. He was the fourth son of Don and Dorothy (Dickey) Mathies. John attended elementary school at Lewis and graduated from Montezuma County High School in 1967. During the early 1970s he served with the Army in Vietnam. He also served a year in Germany. He was a logger for most of his life; then for the last few years he farmed the family farm at Lewis. John enjoyed reading and working with computers in his spare time. John is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jim. He is survived by his brothers, Ed, Walt and Stan; and by his sister, Nellie all of the area. John also leaves behind his nephew, Brian; grandnephews, John Williams, Bronson Sanford, and Brighton Sanford; nieces, Pamela Williams and Bobbi Sanford; and grandnieces, Abby Williams and Abby Mathies. At John’s request cremation has taken place and at this time no services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the American Heart Association.
