JAMES PETER RASMUSSEN Memorial services for Dolores resident James Peter Rasmussen will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 4 at the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Vickie Richard-Street will officiate. The son of Carl Edward and Juanita Eva (Ortiz) Rasmussen, James was born on August 8, 1945 in San Diego, Calif. He passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at his residence at the age of 60. James grew up and spent his childhood in Solvang, Calif. He began an extensive career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Merced County Sheriff Department. He then went on to work for and eventually retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department as a Senior Deputy Sheriff. James moved to the Dolores valley six years ago. He was a very special person who touched the lives of those he came in contact with. Surviving James are his daughters, Raquel Vissman and husband, Dave of Boise, Idaho, and Brooke Tester and husband, Andy of Sebastopol, Calif.; his mother, Juanita “Jonnie” Rasmussen of Solvang, Calif.; his sister, Rikka Rasmussen also of Solvang, Calif.; and Morgan the Wonder Dog. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to either the Humane Society or to U.S.C. Norris Cancer Center in care of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
