James Edward Snow

November 6, 1950 — October 15, 2018

James Edward Snow III left this life on Monday, October 15, 2018, at the age of 67. He was the son of Marilyn (Butler) Snow and James Edward Snow II of Cleveland, Ohio. After serving in the U.S. Army and being stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, he vowed to come back to Colorado to stay. In 1977, he met and married Jackie Cochran and later had two daughters. In 1982, he moved his family to the Cortez area to raise his girls outside of inner-city Cleveland. As a history buff, he delighted in the local history and culture. Jim loved people, spending time with friends, and lived life to the fullest¬¬—always with a smile on his face! He enjoyed mountain views, camping, four wheeling, and snowmobiling with his family above Mancos, Colorado. Jim was a good downhill and cross-country skier and volunteered many years with the Special Olympics ski school. He wouldn’t sit still for long and could be found at music festivals, beer club, watching sports, and traveling. Jim worked as a tow truck driver, for the Montezuma County Assessor’s Office, and became the IT Manager for the City of Cortez retiring after 22 years. During the last 8 years battling brain cancer, Jim was a survivor. He never gave up and beat the odds many times, giving all of the praise to God. He said he made it through by holding Jesus’ hand, and he left this life with Jesus holding his hand leading him to heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie, of 41 years; daughters Holly (Randy) Rose of Colorado Springs and Crystal (Andy) Bennetts of Cortez; Keiko (Reid) Kakesako of Portland; grandsons Garrett Rose and Xander and Asher Bennetts; and brothers Russ and Tim Snow. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carla Binder. Jim leaves behind many loving family members and friends in Cortez; Cleveland; and Rimrock, Arizona; where he and Jackie spent many winters.
A Memorial will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 4pm with a reception following. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project in his name at supportwwp.org or PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
