JAMES ALLAN OLSON Memorial services for longtime area resident James Allan Olson will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 17 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pastor Anthony Maes will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Jim was born December 12, 1953 in Fargo, N.D. the son of Lloyd Earl and Doris Ollie (Stiles) Olson. He passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Jim was 59 years old. December 1972 Jim married Danna Raye Mosher in Cortez, sharing over 40 years of marriage together. Jim served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. For many years he worked as a firefighter and EMT in Colorado Springs, Colo. Jim and his family returned to the Lewis and Cortez area beginning a career with the U.S. Postal Service. He served as Postmaster at Lewis and continued for a period in Freedom, Wyo. A longstanding member of the NRA, Jim enjoyed collecting guns and knives. He loved hunting, fishing and boating. He will be deeply missed by his "best hunting buddy", Larry Gastason. Surviving Jim are his beloved wife, Danna Raye Olson of Cortez; his son, Cory Olson and wife, Becky of Platteville, Colo.; daughter, Nikki Sanchez and husband, Mike of Cortez; and three grandchildren, Thomas Sanchez, Megan Olson and Daniel James Olson. Jim is also survived by his brother and sister, Tom Olson and wife Karen of Vergas, Minn. and Betty Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents, Lloyd and Doris Olson; and his brother, Bill Olson preceded Jim in death. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of James A. Olson with the National Rifle Association.
