IRENE TATE GEISWITE Graveside services for Cortez resident Irene Tate Geiswite will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at Lebanon Cemetery. Irene was born April 11, 1930 in Lakeview, Colo. the daughter of William Taylor and Alice (Palmer) Haydon. She passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. On February 24, 1947, Irene married Dewie Lee Tate. He passed away in January of 1976 and Irene then married Calvin Geiswite on September 22, 1977. Irene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She belonged to the Durango Stake, 2nd Ward. She cooked and waitressed for many years at various local restaurants. In her free time, Irene enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidery and ceramics. She loved shopping at the thrift store and frequenting yard sales. Surviving Irene are her children, Alice Wilkins of St. George, Utah, Judy Oveson and husband, David of Cortez, Mary Holaday and husband, Gary of Lebanon, Colo., Donna McCorkle and husband, Dana of Grand Junction, Colo., and Della Gray and husband, Skip of Cortez. Irene also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her sister, Lenora Lewis of Cortez; her sister-in-law, Lisa Tate of Mancos; and her uncle, Sam Dunning and wife, Nadine of Dolores. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; by her husbands, Dewie Tate and Calvin Geiswite; her daughters, Jackie Lynn Tate and Kathy Jane Tate; and by her siblings, Joe, Jim and Faith Haydon. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene's name to the Senior Center Local Public Transportation 107 N. Chestnut St., Cortez.
