Helen M. Busby

Helen M. Busby Helen M. (Duncan) Busby passed away peacefully on January 29, 2013 in Cortez, Colorado at the age of 95. She was born in rural Albion, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas L. and Leta G. (Bell) Duncan. She graduated from Ridge Farm, Illinois High School in 1935. She worked for four years at F. W. Woolworth, Danville, Illinois in charge of the drug and cosmetic department. She married Robert F. Busby (a farmer) on February 18, 1940 at the Ridge Farm Federated Church (now the United Methodist Church). They moved to their rural Indianola, Illinois farm in 1941. After the death of her husband, she lived a few years in Ridge Farm before she and her daughter, Judy moved to Madison House Assisted Living in Cortez, Colorado in July, 2011 to be near family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Judith Ann Busby, and two sisters Mary Louise Fiske and Wilma Jean Duncan. She is survived by three children, Carol Leigh Bendick of Powell, Wyoming, Robert Duncan Busby (Janice) of Cortez, Colorado, and John David Busby (Donna) of Trinity, Florida, two grandchildren, Damian Busby of Trinity, Florida, and Kelly Campo (Andrew) of Cortez, Colorado, and one great-grandson, T.J. Campo of Cortez, Colorado. She is also survived by one sister, Donnis Burgesser of Olympia, Washington and one brother, Thomas D. Duncan of Elk Grove, Illinois. She enjoyed life, her loving family and friends. She liked living in the country, where she enjoyed gardening. She also liked reading and playing bridge and was well known for her delicious home-made candies and pies. At Madison House she found some bridge-playing buddies and also had fun playing Bingo. She was a lifelong active member of the Ridge Farm United Methodist Church, where she held several church offices and taught Sunday school. Over many years, she enjoyed time with her friends in the United Methodist Women. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 4:00 7:00 pm and funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown, Illinois. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm, Illinois. Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West St., Georgetown, Illinois is in charge of arrangements and may be reached at 217-662-6700. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any memorials/donations be given to the Ridge Farm United Methodist Church in Helen's name.
