Helen Evonne Zentz

May 21, 1925 — January 1, 2011

HELEN EVONNE ZENTZ Helen Evonne Zentz was born on May 21, 1925 in Greensburg, Kansas, the daughter of Bessie (Bruner) and Henry Welker Zentz. She passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Vista Mesa Assisted Living at the age of 85. Helen graduated with a B.A. in sociology from Ft. Lewis College; her work history included Durango Social Services, Hospice of Montezuma, and Kemper Elementary where she enjoyed her interaction with the children. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Cortez. Helen had a discerning, curious and playful mind and loved to write poetry, some of which was published. She loved the out-of-doors, especially hiking, fishing, and birding. Her family was very important to her, and she was a devoted grandmother. Surviving Helen are her children Donna Showers and her husband Gary of Rico, Colorado, Steven Shook and his wife Therese of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Jane Carducci of Winona, Minnesota. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren Cheryl Forrester, Jenna Schultz, Jasmine Showers, Christine Shook, Jasper Showers, Keith Shook, and Kim Shook. Preceding Helen in death are her parents and three sisters, Mary Hobson, Alma Hemphill, and Fae Brown. We would like to thank the staff at Vista Mesa and Hospice of Montezuma for their caring and compassionate commitment to Helen's well being. Helen's life will be celebrated at a later date in Greensburg, Kansas. Memorial contributions can be made in care of Helen Zentz at Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colorado 81321.
