HARLEY MELVIN SPORE Funeral Mass for longtime area resident Harley Melvin Spore will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Reverend Joseph L. Gallegos C.R. will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday evening at 6 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. A Rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. Harley was born on April 21, 1920 in Harrow, Okla. the son of Frank Martin and Pauline Virginia (Bohart) Spore. He passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 87. Harley had many passions in life. He loved digging for bottles in old mining towns and finding “treasures” at yard sales. He also enjoyed time spent camping. Surviving Harley are his sister, Geneva B. Spore of Mancos; his nieces and nephews, Barbara J. Gustafson, who Harley and Geneva raised as their daughter, and husband, Gene of Mancos, Frank J. Spore of Dolores, Delores Fosnot and husband, Clifton of Cahone, and Mary Eble and husband, Bill of Sedona, Ariz.; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Chris Gustafson and wife, Bobbie of Mancos, Sharon Hilmes and husband, Lance of Hesperus, and Diane Earnest and husband, Mike of Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous other great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Julius F. Spore, Lawrence G. Spore, Arthur J. Spore, Ralph C. Spore, Frank Spore, Joseph M. Spore, Leo H. Spore, and Matthew “Bill” Spore; his niece and nephews, Cathy Vincent, Norman Spore, and Ralph C. Spore Jr.; and his great-nephew, Dean Gustafson. Memorial contributions may be made in Harley’s name to Dolores State Bank.
