Guyrene R. Mcafee

GUYRENE R. MCAFEE Funeral services for lifelong area resident Guyrene R. McAfee will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Guyrene was born on March 25, 1929 in Cortez the daughter of Roy J. and Lillian Harriett (Tracy) Retherford. She passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. On December 18, 1950, Guyrene married Bruce McAfee in Farmington, N.M. Guyrene spent 25 years educating local children. She was involved in many different organizations, Chi Omega, Beta Sigma Phi, Daughters of the Nile, Emblem Club, High School Rodeo Association, and 4-H to name a few. Guyrene enjoyed meeting and spending time with the Forty's Bunch. When her husband, Bruce ran for the school board position, Guyrene was very supportive. In her free time, Guyrene enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts, reading and dancing. She was very fond of Navajo art and jewelry. Her goats brought Guyrene much happiness and enjoyment. Surviving Guyrene are her children, Melanie Filener of Lewis, Mike McAfee and wife, Angie of Lewis, Suzi Boehm of Phillips, Wisc., and Buzz McAfee and wife, Lydia of Lewis; her grandchildren, Cody Burch, Shacy Filener, Bryan McAfee, Mandy McAfee, Tyrel Sabin, and Morgan McAfee; her step-grandchildren, Jenna Cone, Charles Jeter, and Derick Jeter; her sister, Glenna J. Harris of Lewis; her niece, Gayel Alexander and husband, Philip, and their daughter, Kaytlyn all of Lewis; and numerous friends and extended family members. Guyrene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce; and her grandson, Mark McAfee.
