Gladys Euphema Hauser

GLADYS E. LOYD HAUSER Gladys Loyd Hauser was born May 17, 1920 on Garrett Ridge in rural Montezuma County, Colorado to Percy and Ethel Chappell. She passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at the age of 86. Gladys attended school at Garrett Ridge School until the 10th grade, then going on to finish her education, living with her Aunt Mattie in Pierce, Ariz. Gladys, a devoted wife and mother, worked in an aircraft factory during WWII in Tacoma, Wash. and as an aide at Southwest Memorial Hospital. She also was a rural mail carrier, and a grocery clerk at City Market. She then went on to work with her son at Circle K in Cortez and finally at the P&D Grocery in Mancos until she retired at the age of 80. Gladys married George Loyd on October 25, 1937 and lived and farmed in Montezuma County where they raised four children, Darrell, Vicki, P.M. “Pete”, and Douglas. Following the death of her husband, George in 1982, Gladys married Larry Hauser on December 31, 1988. Gladys loved to dance and listen to music. She much enjoyed the senior dances at the Senior Center and music at the Nunn’s apple shed. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Ethel Chappell; her husband, George Loyd; her sisters, Oneta Banks, and Katherine Stanley; her brothers, Paul Chappell, J.M. Chappell, and Cliff Chappell; an infant daughter; and her grandsons, Rodney Rich, and Eric Loyd. Gladys is survived by her beloved family, her husband, Larry Hauser; her sons, Darrell Loyd and wife, Connie of Andrews, Tex., P.M. Loyd and wife, Deloris of Mancos, Douglas Loyd and wife, Rebecca of Farmington, N.M.; her daughter, Vicki Harder and husband, Norman of Cortez; her sister, Margaret Diffendaffer of Cortez; her step-children, Patrick Hauser and wife, Donna of Cortez, Teresa Martin and husband, David of Pueblo, Colo., and Cherlyn Hauser of Cortez; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys’ name to Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colo. 81321. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Gladys’ expressed wishes, no services will take place. A celebration of Gladys’ life will be held for her family and friends at the family residence on Sunday, August 13 from 1 to 4 p.m.
