Fred Charles Torres

Funeral Mass for Cortez resident Fred Charles Torres will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez, CO. Father Lorenzo Uribe will officiate. A rosary will take place at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.
Fred passed away at home on November 23, 2021; he lived a beautiful and full life. He was married to Louise for 65 years. Fred was born October 24, 1930 in Dolores, CO to Camillo and Amalia Torres, both deceased. He was 1 of 12 children, Kelly, Lewis, Richard, Rebecca, Alex, Harvey, Fedelina, Celia, Freddie, Florita all are deceased. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Louise Torres of Cortez, CO; one sister, Susan Renova of Silver City, NM; two daughters, Becky Torres of Cortez, CO and Marita Knowles of Cortez, CO; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Fred was a businessman doing bookwork and accounting for Mesa Verde Savings and Loan, Southwest Memorial Hospital, City of Cortez, he was a loan officer for Mt. Carmel Credit Union, Morehart Chevrolet. Fred served his community as a board member and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Cortez, he also served as a board member for the Cortez Sanitation District. He was a deeply religious man who enjoyed singing with the church choir, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Fred served in the Army as a medic in the Korean War.
Fred loved his family, they always came first. He enjoyed being outdoors working in his yard and taking care of his beautiful roses. He liked to bike ride alone and with his friends in Durango where he participated in the Iron Horse event from Durango to Silverton. He Loved music and sang with the Choralairs for many years. He loved to tinker with things and was always on call to fix something, he was the family’s hero and could fix anything with lots of screws, nails, glue and duct tape!
Fred will be missed by all.
