Frances Venable Marotta

FRANCES VENABLE MAROTTA Frances Venable Marotta was born May 11, 1920 in Rockbridge County, Va., the daughter of Venable Watkins and Marie Calhoun (Martin) Brooks. She passed away at her Dolores home on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Frances was 94 years old. During World War II, Frances was enlisted with the U.S. Army. She was a map specialist working with the detail responsible for planning the Normandy invasion. Frances was avid in riding her horses with her husband, Joe, and with Montezuma County Search and Rescue. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Frances' beloved husband of 67 years, Joseph Raymond Marotta, preceded her in death July, 2014. She is also preceded by her parents, Venable and Marie Brooks; a son, David Marotta; and her siblings, Mary Brooks, John Brooks and Bill Brooks. Surviving Frances are two sons, Ray Marotta of Lyons, Colo. and Dan Marotta and wife, Patti, of Tijeras, N.M.; three grandchildren, Michael Dowell, Sonja Marotta Bonney and Merewyn Waldron; and three great grandchildren, Samuel Dowell, and Levi and Ella Bonney. Cremation is to take place.
