Faye Vestal

ALICE "FAYE" VESTAL Memorial services for Cortez resident Alice "Faye" Vestal will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17 at the Cortez First Baptist Church. Faye was born April 26, 1941 in Huntsville, Ark. the youngest child and only girl of Felix Everette and Reba Leotta (Purdom) McLoud. She passed away at her home in Cortez on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the age of 68 to be with our Lord. Faye grew up in rural northwest Arkansas on a farm and she graduated from high school in Huntsville. Faye then went on to enter the Air Force. While stationed in Waco, Tex., Faye met her husband, John Alton "Al" Vestal Jr. on the dance floor. They moved to Strong, Ark. after Faye gave birth to their only child, John Alton Vestal III. Faye worked for 13 years as a hair dresser. She then went into the accounting and tax service. Upon the death of her father-in-law, Faye worked at the "Ice House" with Al seven days a week. In 1995, the couple retired from the hunting and fishing business and took up ballroom dancing and competition full time. In 2000, they moved to Cortez to be with their grandkids, John Alton Vestal IV and Alexander William Vestal; their son, John Alton Vestal III; and their daughter-in-law, Sandra Ann Ferguson-Vestal. Al and Faye brought their dancing with them and they taught ballroom until 2006. Surviving Faye are her brothers, Carol McLoud and Nelson McLoud; her son, John Alton Vestal III and wife, Sandra; four grandchildren, Stephanie Renee Luker, Kayla Michelle Vestal, John Alton Vestal IV, and Alexander William Vestal; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Renee Luker and Kaden Andrew Luker. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, John Alton Vestal Jr.; her parents, Felix Everette McLoud and Reba Leotta Purdom-McLoud; and her brothers, Leonard Earl McLoud, Oran Van "Pete" McLoud, Price McLoud, and James K. McLoud.
