Eugene Oster

EUGENE WILLIAM OSTER Services for Cortez resident, Eugene "Gene" William will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 at the Cortez Cemetery. Gene was born on October 24, 1926 in Gilcrest, Colo. the son of Jacob and Katie (Blum) Oster. He passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 88. On October 18, 1944, Gene enlisted into the United States Navy. Stationed on the U.S.S. Hoggatt Bay, he entered into active duty on November 22, 1944 where he defended his country during World War II. Gene was honorably discharged on June 19, 1946. After his separation from the military, Gene maintained a membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. July 7, 1951 in Longmont, Colo., Gene married Annabell Lucille Belvill. He worked hard for 30 years as a mechanic and enjoyed motorcycles, Jeeping and fishing during his free time. Surviving Gene are his wife, Annabell Oster of Cortez; his children, Kenneth Oster and wife, Joyce of Lodi, Calif., Chris Tidwell and husband, Ronnie of Cheney, Kan., Wayne Oster and wife, Jody of Grand Junction, Colo., Liz Warner and husband, Ben of Cortez; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, Jacob and Katie (Blum) Oster; and his great grandson, Donald Oster.
