ETTA MAE (POFF) TURNER Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident and former Dove Creek resident Etta Mae (Poff) Turner will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Dove Creek Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ertel Chapel. Etta Mae was born on October 12, 1921 in Guthrie, Okla., the daughter of Albert Franklin and Ethel (Leach) Poff. She passed into the next life on Monday, July 24, 2006 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. Etta Mae married her life-long love, MC Turner on December 13, 1938 in Grand Junction, Colo. Surviving Etta Mae are her children, Melvin Curtis Turner and wife, Judy of Victorville, Calif., Virginia Turner Daniels of Cortez, Joyce Edna Turner of Cortez, and Marilyn Fern Turner Heil and husband, Kenneth of Farmington, N.M.; nine grandchildren, Lanna Sheldon and husband, Mike, Michael Heil and wife, Jessica, Glenda Jones, Lisa Sostak and husband, Bruce, Karla Knuckles and husband, Scott, Chad Daniels, Kelly Turner and wife, Bethany, Ryan Turner and wife, Tammy, and Mark Heil; nine great-grandchildren, BryAnn Goddard and husband, Jeremiah, Shelbie Knuckles, Sage Heil, Danielle Turner, Meliny Pond, Peyton Turner, Aerial Jones, Ethan Turner, and Nathan Heil; two great-great-grandchildren, Destinee Goddard and Noah Turner; her brothers, E.G. Poff and wife, Margaret of Portland, Ore., Oran Poff and wife, Juanita of Farmington, N.M., Albert Poff and wife, Alice of Oklahoma City, Okla., and her sister-in-law, Lucille Little of Jonesboro, Ark. Etta Mae was preceded in death by her husband, MC Turner in December of 2005; her parents; siblings, Mary Frye and Edward Poff; son-in-law, Walter G. Daniels; grandson, Matthew Heil; nephews, Phil Poff and Ricky Frye; and her brother-in-law, Ted Frye. Memorial contributions may be made in Etta Mae’s memory to the Highway Church of Christ, 505 S. Cedar Street, Cortez or to Hospice of Montezuma.
