ELMA IRENE BOREN Funeral services for Cortez resident Elma Irene Boren will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 4 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Elma was born on August 8, 1909 in Dolores the daughter of Frank and Edith Belden (Stone) Myers. She passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Vista Grande Inn. Elma's family joined in helping her to celebrate her 100th birthday this past August. Elma married Clyde Striegel on January 1, 1927. He passed away June 14, 1959. Her second marriage to Clarence Edward Boren was on September 2, 1961. Clarence passed away November 22, 1970. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, working crossword puzzles, reading and dancing. She loved her aspen tree in front of her house, but mostly she enjoyed time spent with family. Surviving Elma are her children, Betty Jo Babich of Colorado Springs, Colo., Boyd W. Striegel of Cañon City, Colo., and Billy Lee Striegel and wife, Judy of Dolores; by 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and by one sister, Frances Hutchinson and husband, Earl of Cortez. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; a son, Bob Striegel; two grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great grandson; a son-in-law, Frank Babich; daughter-in-law, Jessie Striegel; and siblings, Orville Myers, Jack Myers, and Arnola Patterson-Brians.
