ELDON D. LEFFEL Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident Eldon D. Leffel will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 30 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Burn Cemetery. Pastor Mike Farren will officiate. Visitation has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Eldon was born June 6, 1920 in Grady County, Okla. the son of Limuel Layne and Mabel Elizabeth (Williams) Leffel. He passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at his residence at the age of 91. On December 24, 1939 Eldon married Bertha E. Merz in Monticello, Utah. Eldon served his country proudly with the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Dove Creek V.F.W. Post #5181 where he held the positions of Commander and Quartermaster. Eldon owned Main Supply Hardware, a business that has served the Dove Creek area since 1971. He was also a volunteer ambulance driver in Dove Creek for 29 1/2 years. Eldon serviced and maintained the ambulances at his own shop. Surviving Eldon are his loving wife of 72 years, Bertha Leffel of Dove Creek; and his children, Dorothy Heffner of Dove Creek, Layne Leffel and wife, Helen of Cortez, Connie Martin of Kirtland, Wash., Mary Ann Taylor of Dove Creek, Audrey Ann Gregory and husband, Mike of Palisade, Colo., and Shauna Abney and husband, Russell of Bloomfield, N.M. Eldon also leaves behind his grandchildren, Mark Heffner and wife, Renee, Tammy Beanland, Denise Sanchez and husband, Shane, Brian Leffel, Scott Martin and Ridgely Schantz, Todd Martin, Heather Rodgers and husband, Jeff, David Taylor, Levi Gregory, Aubani Kannard and husband, Daniel, Austin Leffel, and Katlin Leffel and Jacob Hauser; his great-grandchildren, Chad Beanland, Matthew Beanland and Jacy Huskey, Christopher Beanland, Nicholas Heffner, Olivia Heffner, Blake Ryan, Tristan Martin, Bryce Kannard, Collyn Kannard, Madisyn Kannard, and Samantha Sanchez; his great-great-grandchildren, Cael Beanland and Taryn Beanland; and his sister, Wanda Fincher of Farmington, N.M. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; by his grandson, Kirby Taylor; and by his siblings, Cecil Leffel, Jewell Calliham, and Lois Ketchum. Memorial contributions may be made in Eldon Leffel's name to the Dove Creek V.F.W. Post #5181 for memorial benches. Services are under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home.
