Elbert Leslie Colcord Jr.

August 18, 1944 — June 15, 2020

Elbert Leslie Colcord Jr. was born on August 18, 1944, to Elbert "Bert" Colcord and Shirley Mae Lewis in Grand Junction, Colorado. He passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, CO at the age of 75.
The family moved around his first few years and then moved to Gateway, Colorado to build and operate the Colcord Mercantile. Elbert attended school in Gateway and graduated in 1962 and then attended college in Gunnison and Grand Junction. Elbert's life dream was to play Major League Baseball but due to a hunting accident in 1960, this dream was never realized. In 1964 Elbert married Marilyn Hubbard and they had 55 plus years of real life marriage. Yes, they fought and disagreed like any normal couple, but they were always together and divorce was never considered. Elbert and Marilyn had two children, Bert and Brenda. Elbert may have only had one leg but no one ever knew he was handicapped because he could operate tractors, stick shift vehicles, and rode horses. Elbert enjoyed many occupations over the years; ranching, welding, bail bonding, and Postmaster. Elbert and Marilyn moved to many different post offices during their marriage because he could get a troubled post office back operating in the black in no time. Elbert retired from the post office for good in 2000 after his last post at Mesa Verde National Park. Elbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, 4-wheeling, and time spent with family.
Elbert's greatest accomplishment in life was on Easter Sunday of 1973 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. Elbert taught others including his family "That, if thou shalt confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9
Elbert is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Cahone, CO; his son, Bert (Donna) of Cortez; his daughter Brenda Jarmon (Mel) of Cortez; his grandson Elijah Jarmon, who spent nearly every day with Poppy; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
