EARLENE MAE ROPER Memorial services for Earlene Mae Roper, 70 of Cortez, and a former longtime Dove Creek resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 14 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pastor Mike Farren and Rev. Bud Rousset will officiate. Earlene was born May 26, 1935 in Bristow, Okla., the daughter of Marshall and Sarah Elizabeth (Dotson) Shackelford. She passed away at Madison House on Wednesday, April 12, 2006. Earlene was a loving mother to her four children. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the happy recipients of her loving ways. Earlene was a “jewel of a person” who never met a stranger. In her free time she enjoyed gardening. Surviving Earlene are her children, Rick Connally and wife, Cindy of Bakersfield, Calif., Leora Baird and husband, Greg of Dove Creek, and Coleen Quinn and husband, Joe of Delta, Colo.; and her stepdaughter, Dodie Connally of Monticello, Utah. Nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and her sister, Ora Garcia of Ceres, Calif. also survive Earlene. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Earlene Roper with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Drawer 740, Cortez, 81321.
