EARL MADISON McCUTCHEON Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Earl Madison McCutcheon will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 27 at Cortez Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Another WWII veteran has fallen. Earl Madison McCutcheon, born May 15, 1922 in Benton, Ark., to John Cleveland McCutcheon and Georgia Bradshaw McCutcheon, passed peacefully from this life on February 24, 2014 at the age of 91. He was married for nearly 74 years to Virginia Bell Taft. They were together when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. Staff Sergeant McCutcheon was a radio operator and waist gunner on a B-24 aircraft in the 27th Bomb Squadron stationed in the South Pacific. He never said he enjoyed military life, but he served honorably until he was discharged in 1945. Earl's civilian life was spent working in agriculture in Santa Paula, Calif., where he eventually retired as the Quality Control Manager for Peto Seed Company. He was a long-time member of the Church of Christ. Earl and Virginia moved to Colorado in 1997 to continue the tradition of attending every possible sports event in which, first their grandchildren, and then their great-grandchildren performed. They never missed. Surviving Earl are his wife, Virginia; daughter, Earleen Brock and husband, John of Cortez; son, Earl M. McCutcheon, Jr. and wife, Sylvia of Solvang, Calif.; grandchildren, Cris and Michelle Brock, and Andy and Cherrie Brock of Cortez, Julie and Bob Kehr of Rifle, Colo., L. E. McCutcheon of Seattle, Wash., and Jill McCutcheon of Solvang, Calif. Other proud descendants include 11 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters, Georgia A. Lawrence and Jeannie F. Black. His was pre-deceased by his parents, and brother, John C. McCutcheon, Jr. The family requests that any desired memorial contributions be made to the Madison House Assisted Living Residence, 120 S. Madison, Cortez, CO 81321.
