DOUGLAS JAY "DOUG" BEDKER Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Douglas Jay "Doug" Bedker will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Barr Chittick will officiate. Doug was born September 15, 1963 in Fort Lewis, Wash. the son of William O. and Sarah A. (Young) Bedker. He passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 48. On September 20, 2003 Doug married Leah Ann Becher in Cortez. Doug worked in the towing industry for 26 years. Doug was ready to venture out on his own so he started Doug's Quality Towing Service a few years ago. He was a member of the Towing and Recovery Professionals of Colorado. Doug loved teasing his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also had an extensive toy tow truck collection. Surviving Doug are his wife, Leah Bedker of Cortez; and his children, Jayson Bedker and wife, Elicia Stepp-Bedker of Cortez, Justin Bedker and wife, Rashonda Goat of Cortez, and Cassandra Jordan and fiance, Joseph Kane of Afghanistan. Doug also leaves behind his parents, Bill and Sarah Bedker of Cortez; grandchildren, Isabelle, Makayla, Kayden and Shyrail; his siblings, Dwayne Bedker and wife, Janet of Aurora, Colo., Darren Bedker and wife, Melissa of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Doris McDonald and husband, Jimmy of Cortez; and his 14 nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. Memorial contributions may be made in Doug's name to First Southwest Bank of Cortez. The funds received will be sent to the Towing Recovery Professional of Colorado Association.
