DOROTHY JEAN UPTAIN Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Dorothy Jean Uptain will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 10 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Dorothy passed away on Saturday, December 5 at Southwest Memorial Hospital after a long battle with emphysema. Dorothy was born on November 10, 1929, in Delta, Colo. She moved to Cortez in 1931 and lived most of her life in the area. She was married June of 1947, to Johnny Leroy Donaldson, of Cortez. They had five children together. She married Alfred Uptain, of Cortez in 1978. Dorothy worked as a waitress at the Pony Express, the Elk's Club, and finished her career as a hostess, at the Homesteader's Restaurant in October of 2007. She was a wonderful mother and grandparent and will be missed. Dorothy is survived by her brother, Charles Taylor, of Anchorage, Alaska; her sister, Lois Padia and husband, Ray of Lakewood, Colo.; her sister-in-law, Velma Taylor, of Lacy, Wash., her children, Johnny Donaldson Jr. and his wife Connie, Jimmy Donaldson and daughter, Debbie Klein, all of Tse Bonito, NM. She also leaves behind 13 grand children; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by Roy and Ida Taylor, of Cortez, CO, Sister Charlotte Stanley, Brother Victor Taylor, and two of her children, Diane and Donald.
