Donald Loid Sherwood

DON SHERWOOD Funeral services for Don Sherwood, 76, formerly of Anchorage, Alaska and Farmington, N.M. will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 26525 Road M with interment to follow at Lebanon Cemetery. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Donald Loid Sherwood passed away on December 19, 2008 at his home in Nampa, Ida. after a brave battle against several illnesses. Don was born April 30, 1932 to Alpha Loid and Laura Francis (Roles) Sherwood in Stanton County, Kans. The fifth child of eleven, growing up on a Kansas farm during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, Don learned to work at an early age. Don served in the army in Korea. He worked in the oilfield in the Four Corners area where he met his wife, Edith Wolff. Don worked in oil drilling in Alaska and retired as Chief of Field Maintenance at Anchorage International Airport. Don enjoyed hunting fishing, boating and RVing. He and Edith traveled to all the states except Hawaii. They spent eight winters as snowbirds in Florence, Ariz. Don golfed and enjoyed lapidary and silver smithing. He made some beautiful jewelry and was still working on some the last month of his life. Don was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Surviving Don are his wife of fifty years, Edith Sherwood; his children, Donna and husband, Nathan Leigh of Juneau, Alaska, Loid and wife, Diane of Nampa, Ida., and Anna of St. Paul, Minn.; foster children, Mario and Elizabeth Dyer; grandchildren, John, Amber, Debra, Abram, Tiffany, Tony, and Andy; and two great grandchildren. Also surviving Don are his brothers, Jean, Royal, Sid and Tim; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to LDS Humanitarian Services, 50 East North Temple Street, Floor 7, Salt Lake City, Utah 84150-6890; The MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome) Foundation, P.O. Box 353, 36 Front Street, Crosswicks, N.J. 08515; or Boy Scouts of America.
