DOLLIE BLANCHE COX Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Dollie Blanche Cox will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Anthony Maes will officiate. Visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday from noon to service time at the funeral home. Dollie was born January 16, 1925 in Omaha, Ark. the daughter of Everett and Luvean (Williams) Simpkins. She passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango at the age of 86. On January 25, 1941, Dollie married Reuben A. “Slim” Cox in Blue Eye, Ark. Active in her community, Dollie was a member of Eastern Star, Toastmistress, Pink Ladies, Circle 8 Square Dance, and she volunteered at the Cortez Welcome Center. She also bowled with the Night Owls and other bowling leagues. Dollie and her husband owned Southside Automotive where she oversaw the bookkeeping duties. Dollie had previously been employed at Notah Dineh and prior to living in Cortez, Dollie was a beautician. Surviving Dollie are her husband of 70 years, Reuben “Slim” Cox of Cortez; and her children, Darrell Cox and wife, Bea of Grand Junction, Colo., Bobbie Spore of Cortez, Farrell Cox and wife, Betty of Dolores, Pattie Brown and husband, Jim of Nucla, Colo., and Richard Cox of Cortez. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren; by her siblings, Lucille Rask of Denver, Colo., Hiram Simpkins and wife, Eutona of Montrose, Colo., Violet “Mutt” Shaw of Missouri; and by her sister-in-law, Willamae Simpkins of Denver, Colo. Dollie was preceded in death by her parents.
