DARLENE ELLEN JONES Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident, Darlene Ellen Jones will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 8 at the Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Anthony Maes will be officiating. A visitation has been scheduled for Thursday morning at the Ertel Memorial Chapel from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Darlene Ellen Jones passed away on January 3, 2015 at the age of 78. She was born October 6, 1936 at home in Breen, Colo. to James C. Maness and Hattie L. Jeffcoat. Darlene spent most of her childhood making cloths, milking the cow and cooking for her brothers and sister. She married James D. Kohler in Aztec, N.M. in 1955 and had a son, Dale L. Kohler and a daughter, Sharon R. Reed. Darlene lived in the Hesperus community for many years before she divorced and married Raymond Jones. They made their home in the Cherry Creek area with stepsons, David, Chester and Tommy Jones. After Raymond's passing, Darlene married P.R. Mckay and moved to La Veta, Colo. where she lived for a few years before divorcing and returning to the Cortez area; where she spent the remainder of her life. She made many friends and enjoyed sewing, painting, fishing and doing many house hold projects. Darlene is survived by her children, Dale L. Kohler of Pueblo, Colo., Sharon R. and Tom Reed of La Center, Wash.; one grandchild; one step grandchild; siblings, Cecil Maness of Mancos, Delbert Maness of Phoenix, Ariz., Edna Young of Dove Creek and Lonnie Maness of Cottonwood, Ariz.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, James C. Maness and Hattie L. Jeffcoat; her sister, Clara L. Maness; and stepson, Tommy Jones.
