CURTIS CHESTER BAKER Funeral services for longtime Mancos resident Curtis Chester Baker will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 8 at Mancos First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Pastor Rick Gregory will officiate. Curtis was born on February 23, 1929 in Tulsa, Okla. the son of Chester Arthur and Esther Nevada (Warren) Baker. He passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Ariz. at the age of 80. On February 23, 1951, Chester married Fay Evelyn Wilson in Gardena, Calif. Curtis was a devoted member of Mancos First Baptist Church and had been ordained Deacon. He taught Sunday school at the church for many years. Much of Curtis' working career was spent at City Market where he held many positions. After 32 dedicated years, Curtis retired from City Market. In his free time, Curtis enjoyed prospecting in the mountains and hunting. He was a proud resident of the Mancos Valley for over 50 years. Surviving Curtis are his loving wife, Fay Baker of Mancos; his children, Bob Baker and wife, Debbie of Mesa, Ariz., Susie Frantz and husband, Jim of Mancos, Becky Klocker and husband, Greg of Glade Park, Colo., and Peggy Samora and husband, Tommy of Cortez; his grandchildren, Bobby Baker Jr. and wife, Melissa of Phoenix, Valerie Gibson of Phoenix, Carmen Samora of Cortez, and Cody Samora of Shallow Water, Tex.; and his great-grandchildren, Lance, Tristan, and Mikayla Baker and Victoria Gibson.
