Clyde Darrell Lay

CLYDE DARRELL LAY Graveside services for longtime Dove Creek resident Clyde Darrell Lay will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 27 at Dove Creek Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Friday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Clyde was born on December 16, 1934 in Lewis, Colo. the son of Marion Joseph and Jerusha Charlotte (McGee) Lay. He passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010 at his residence at the age of 75. Clyde graduated from Dolores High School in 1953. He then went on to work for the Dolores County Road Department as a road foreman in the Fish Creek, Dunton, Rico, and Disappointment areas. Clyde was a very active member of the N.R.A. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and tinkering with motors and windmills. He loved flowers and was always the first to share his things with others. Clyde looked forward to reminiscing about his childhood and old times with his friends and family. In his free time, Clyde enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to old time country music, as well as classical and polka music. Surviving Clyde are his children, Patty Lay of Dove Creek, Shelly Boggs and husband, Wesley of Dove Creek, Anna Hart and husband, Mark of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Carrie Lay of Burns, Ore., and Melissa Cox and husband, Everett of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and his grandchildren, David Hart, Eric Lay, Chris Cox, Matt Cox, Darrell Robinett, Clayton Robinett, James Lay, Micheal Foster, Joseph Foster, Michael Boggs, and Cheyenne Boggs. Clyde also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Kylina Robinett, Ariana Robinett, Eric Cox, Hunter Cox, and Kayesha Hart; his siblings, Jean Magness and husband, Wayne of Cahone, Helen Wilderson and husband, Orval of Montrose, Colo., and Norma Swank and husband, Frank of Price, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; by his daughter, Wendy Lay; and by two brothers-in-law. Memorial contributions may be made in Clyde's name to the Dove Creek V.F.W., Hospice of Montezuma or to St. Jude's Cancer Research for Children.
