Clevelan Cameron "Cleve" Dicken

October 28, 1924 — June 25, 2014

CLEVELAN CAMERON "CLEVE" DICKEN Memorial services for longtime Dove Creek resident Clevelan Cameron "Cleve" Dicken were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 at the Dove Creek Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Pastor Steve Gilham officiated. Cleve C. Dicken was born October 28th 1924 near Chester, Oklahoma to John Paul Dicken and Clara (Bill) Dicken. He was the third of four boys born in the family. In 1937 the family moved to the Dove Creek area. He followed his Dad's occupation of farming. Before settling down to married life he and his younger brother, Max, had many adventures motoring and hiking around the country taking many photos! In 1952, a leap-year, he met Flossie Kuykendall who would become his wife. They were married February 3rd 1955 in Cortez, Colorado. Two children were born to this marriage: Sandra (Dicken) Knight and Edward Dicken. He was a loving, kind father and devoted husband. He could never leave the house for work without giving his wife a kiss at the door! Cleve loved to go camping and hiking- and later water-skiing! He would fearlessly wade in and do things to inspire his kids to do what-ever it was also! He loved music, especially hymns of the church and polkas. He had learned some piano with his mother and played violin in his high-school orchestra so he played these at home. Later he purchased a beautiful, bright-red accordion and learned to play polkas! He also loved animals and flowers. There always seemed to be pets around the house and he liked to plant flowers near the door of the house and would water them every evening upon returning from the fields. Cleve was a long time member and great supporter of the Seventh Day Adventist Church holding many offices in the church. He had a great sense of humor and up until the last few years talked fast enough to give an auctioneer a run for his money! Speaking of auctions: He also loved to go to these whether the weekly auctions held in Farmington, New Mexico or traveling to neighboring states for farm auctions. He did pick up many useful things at these, and almost always at bargain prices. He knew when to quit bidding! Cleve will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years: Flossie, his brother: Max, his children: Sandy and Steve Knight and Edward and Chely Dicken, and four grandchildren: Israel, Stephanie, and Kelli Knight and Arelli Dicken, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wayne and Wilmer. October 28, 1924 to June 25, 2014 his life of 89 years and 8 months spanned two centuries. He saw all the way from farming with mules in Oklahoma to the space age and beyond to our age of terrorism and anarchy. But he now rests awaiting the resurrection which cannot come soon enough..
