Charles William Higman

CHARLES WILLIAM “BILL” HIGMAN Memorial services for lifelong Cortez resident Charles William “Bill” Higman will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at the Cortez Church of Christ. Mr. Hunt Zumwalt will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. The Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 will be conducting military graveside services. Bill was born at Beulah, Colo. on Nov. 26, 1927 the son of Charlie and Susie Marie (Englehart) Higman. He passed away on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital. Charles was 76 years old. On Jan. 3, 1953 in Aztec, N.M. Bill married Carol Blythe Miller. Together the couple shared 48 years of marriage before Carol’s death in 2001. A World War II Army Veteran, Bill remained a member of the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. He was also part of the United Search and Rescue as well as the Lake Vista Grange Post Master. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping in the mountains. Snowmobiling and wood working were also favorite pastimes. Surviving Bill are his son and daughter, Michael W. Higman and wife, Cathy of Dolores, and Susan M. Porter and husband, Frank of Denver, Colo.; his grandchildren, Brandi J. Owens of Bloomfield, N.M., Shane Higman of Dolores, Kristen Higman of Dolores, Emily Porter of Denver, and William Porter of Denver; as well as his two sisters, Harriet Shull of Cortez and Joanne McComb and husband, Farrell of Dolores. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Carol Higman; and his daughter, Paula Diane Higman. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Bill Higman with the Cortez Senior Center.
