Carroll Forest Johnson

CARROLL FOREST JOHNSON Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Carroll Forest Johnson will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cortez on Empire Street. Interment will follow at the Monticello Cemetery. Carroll was born on March 24, 1945 in Monticello, Utah the son of Forest A. and Pearl Maxine (Black) Johnson. He passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 60. Carroll graduated from Monticello High School as Class President and then went on to attend Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. In 1970, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. On September 8, 1965, Carroll married Carolyn Hyde at the Manti Temple in Manti, Utah. Shortly after marrying, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. Carroll was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served two terms as Bishop along with numerous other callings. Carroll immensely enjoyed his job and extended family at Nielsons Construction; where he worked for 35 years. He was also a board member for the RE-1 School District for many years. Carroll had a love for young people, which made him a wonderful coach for many Little League and girls’ softball teams. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying the Colorado mountains, most outdoor sports, and especially golf. Surviving Carroll are his wife, Carolyn of Cortez; his daughter, Jennifer MacInnis and husband, John of Cedar City, Utah; his daughter-in-law, Shelly Johnson McPherson and husband, Wes of Norman, Okla.; his mother, Maxine Frost of Monticello, Utah; his siblings, James Daniel Johnson and wife, Kathy of Blanding, Utah and Gail Tracy and husband, Pat of Farmington, N.M. He leaves his grandchildren, Gary Forest Johnson, Jentri McPherson, Joshua MacInnis and Julia MacInnis; and a large extended family. Preceding him in death were his father, Forest A. Johnson; and his son, Gary Forest Johnson. Memorial contributions can be made in Carroll’s name at Dolores State Bank to benefit either the Durango Cancer Center or the Perpetual Education Fund.
