Funeral services for Carol Sue Newby will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Marvin Graves will officiate.

Carol Sue Stanley Newby was born on September 26, 1937 in Goodman Point, Colo. to Ford and Muriel (McGlothlin) Stanley. She passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Vista Grande Inn Nursing Home in Cortez, Colo. at the age of 85.

Carol attended grammar school at Goodman Point. She graduated high school in Phoenix, Ariz. Carol married Charles Newby on November 25, 1955 in Aztec, N.M. Together they enjoyed 61 blessed years. To this union they had four children, Ronnie Gene, Lori Kay, Richard Ford, and Dena Lynn.

Carol was a key part of the successful family business, Newby Electric. Charles and Carol were instrumental in the Lewis Arriola Community Center. Carol served on the board for 18 years. Some of Carol’s favorite hobbies were gardening, canning, working in her flower bed, knitting, crocheting, camping, hunting, and chasing grandchildren.

Surviving Carol are her children, Ronnie Gene (Debra) of Bayfield, Colo., Lori Kay Schluter (Joe) of Cortez, Colo., Richard Ford (Paula) Arriola, Colo.; Bill Blackmer (Peggy) of Arriola, Colo., who was like a son to Carol; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amanda, Jessica, Robert, Alex, Micky, Misty, Shannon, Cassie, Devin and Davey; by 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and by her sister, Linda Kay Crowley (Harvey).

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Newby; by her daughter, Dena Newby; and by her daughter-in-law, Lori Newby.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis Arriola Community Center in memory of Carol Newby.
