Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Carmen was born on September 29, 1919 in St. Johns, Ariz. to Junius Cardon and Mae Whiting. She passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in St. George, Utah at the age of 89. Carmen was the fourth of nine children born to her parents. Her family moved to Kirtland, N.M. in 1927 where she grew up. It was there that she met her husband, Halworth Tanner, and they were married on September 13, 1939 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Halworth and Carmen raised five children and devotedly supported each other in numerous church callings and in service to the community. During their life together, they lived in Allison, Bayfield, and finally, Cortez in the flour milling business. Carmen lost her husband, Halworth in 1997. Since that time, she has resided at their home in St. George, Utah with her beloved sister, Lyn Russon. Carmen was a great example of service, sacrifice, and devotion to family, church, neighbors and friends. She was the supreme homemaker and her favorite pastime enjoying her family. Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Halworth; her parents, Junius and Mae Cardon; her five brothers, Wig, Bob, LaMar, Elwood, and Dee; and by her son, Leonard. She is survived by her three sisters, Irene Christiansen, Ethelyn (Lyn) Russon, and LaVerne Tueller; two of her sons, Trent and Gary Tanner; her two daughters, Linda Enos and Vicki Dowell; 28 grandchildren; and 63 great-grandchildren. Carmen died peacefully in her sleep on September 9, 2009 at the Dixie Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah with family members surrounding her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund, American Heart Association, or American Diabetes Association.
