BYRON F. TATE A celebration of life will be held for lifelong area resident Byron F. Tate at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 7 at the Lewis Arriola Community Center. Byron was born on August 17, 1947 in Cortez and he passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at his Dolores home at the age of 62. On January 31, 1964 Byron married Judy Carolyn Nielson in Durango. Byron worked as a heavy equipment operator and foreman for Nielson's Inc. He also spent time working at Gallavan and Tate Construction and 11th Street Auto. Surviving Byron are his wife of 46 years, Judy Tate of Dolores; his daughter, Carolyn Mae Chandler and husband, Foy of Arriola; four grandchildren, Chance William Tate and wife, Alyssa of Cortez, Brittney Bryan and husband, Adam of Cortez, Brandi Swigart and husband, Michael of Tempe, Ariz., and Ashley Tate of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; his siblings, Darrell Tate, David Tate, Kathy Brodrick, Penny Lynn Sloagas, Gary Coster, and Louanne Beaggy; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William Kent Nielson and Maygean Fox Nielson. Byron was preceded in death by his son, Billy Tate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Byron F. Tate Fund set up at Dolores State Bank.
