BETTY SCHUMACHER COY Graveside services for longtime Durango resident and current Dolores resident, Betty Schumacher Coy will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. Bishop Spencer Smith will be officiating. A visitation has been scheduled for Friday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Ertel Funeral Home. Betty was born on April 5, 1911 in Durango the daughter of George Michael and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Pallakowski) Schumacher. She passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at her daughter’s residence in Dolores at the age of 93. Having been a longtime Durango resident and a pioneer of the area, Betty was well versed in Durango History. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1985. She was known as the best “Auntie” her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews ever had. She was the one who always remembered them on their birthdays and at Christmas. Betty was an outdoorsy woman who loved to cook, and enjoyed being a homemaker. Surviving Betty are her children, L. Bill Fields of Las Vegas, Nev., Darleen Turner of Winslow, Ariz., Michael C. Coy of Malaysia, and Elizabette J. Coy of Dolores; her grandchildren, Bill Fields, John Fields, Jeannie Do, Nora Mesa, John Turner, Susie Rosales, Phyllis Turner, Carl Turner, Vincent Coy, Vahgo Coy, Sherry Brew, Connie Goldman, Tara Kim, Laurie Alexander, and William Lewis; as well as several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Clarence Coy; her children, Roy Lee Fields, Lavora Fields, and Eldon Coy; and her siblings, Edith Slade, Clara Schaffeehoff, Elmer Schumacher, and Elsie Holt; as well as two infant siblings.
