BETTY L. MARX Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Betty L. Marx will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 29 at Arriola Cemetery. Betty was born March 23, 1931 in Ogden, Utah the daughter of Warren E. and Ardath E. (Payne) Harmison. She passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the age of 80. On November 8, 1947, Betty married Alvin Richard Marx. The couple shared 61 years of marriage before Alvin's death in December of 2008. Betty and Alvin shared many common interests. The couple enjoyed square dancing and in their younger years various other forms of dance. Betty and Alvin loved playing cards. They didn't care where they were or who they were with, they just made sure the card game fit the situation. In her free time, Betty enjoyed working in her garden and quilting. A wonderful mother and grandmother, Betty made sure her family was well fed and cared for. She was a fantastic cook. Surviving Betty are her children, Richard Marx and wife, Mette of Jay Em, Wyo., Vickie Martinez and husband, Earl of Cortez, and Cathy Marx and husband, Ron Barker of Cortez; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Beverly Looney and husband, Bob of Alaska, Barbara Jones of Farson, Wyo., and Lynda Abrahamson of Rock Springs, Wyo. Betty also leaves behind a large extended family including step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; by her beloved husband, Alvin Marx; and by three brothers, Jimmy, Roger, and Johnny Harmison. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to Hospice of Montezuma P.O. Box 740 Cortez, Colo. 81321.
