BELVIA CLARIECE “BEL” SELF Memorial services for Durango resident Belvia Clariece “Bel” Self will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 15 at Johnson United Methodist Church in Dolores. Reverend Sharon Strauss will officiate. Bel was born on December 1, 1942 in Phoenix, Ariz. the daughter of Joseph and Amie Jo (Carpenter) Self. She passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango at the age of 68. Bel loved to spend time knitting. She would make wonderful gifts for her friends and family. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, football and soap operas on TV. Bel was wonderful woman who was deeply loved by her family. Surviving Bel are her daughters, Selena Fisher and husband, Darrell of Dolores and Julia Martin of Durango; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and by her siblings, J.W. Self of Lakeside, Ariz., Billy Self of Taft, Calif., Jimmy Self of Indian Hills, Colo., and Sylvia Wood of Taft, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Kenneth Edgar Martin.
