The Gray's came to Cortez in 1964 where Ann continued her teaching career. Over the years she taught elementary to middle school and happily retired in 1990. Over two generations of Cortez residents were lucky to 'tow the line' for their teacher Mrs. Gray. Ann served her community in many ways. She served on the mental health association board. She continued to the end of her life to be an active PEO Chapter EV Sister where she particularly cherished the scholarship opportunities awarded to young woman locally and world-wide. She was a beloved member of the First United Methodist Church where she attended regular service as well as adult bible study. Ann enjoyed reading and thoughtful conversations with her PEO book club. She was always engaged questioning and learning. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends and rummy with her family. Ann was an accomplished artist and she loved all things Christmas. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Surviving Ann are her children, Marcia Michaelis of Cortez and Tom Gray of Cortez; and by her grandchildren, Tyler Michaelis of Cortez and Dani Michaelis of Fort Collins, Colo. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; and by her siblings, Joyce Muse and Francis Kinnamon. A memorial account has been established in Ann's name at Dolores State Bank.
